The Lake Merritt-Uptown District is home to a plethora of culinary experiences. From quick lunches to gourmet fare there is something for everyone. The Uptown neighborhood is brimming with exciting places to dine. On the corner of 19th and Telegraph, in an historic Floral Depot, Flora offers gourmet meals and innovative cocktails amidst art deco elegance. Flora is just across the street from the newly renovated Fox Oakland Theater.
Just three few blocks away, next to the immaculate Paramount Theater, a cluster of new restaurants provide a range of exciting dining options. Luka's Taproom and Lounge is just a few years old and is housed in a former Hofbrau. This popular restaurant boasts hearty meals and a wide selection of microbrews at reasonable prices. Across the street Ozumo's, Pican, and The Franklin Square Wine Bar offer extraordinary dining experiences. Further up Broadway in former auto body shop, MUA dishes small plates, innovative cocktails, and art displays.

Aroma Deli is one of Oakland most popular delis, so popular in fact that they have opened a second just a few blocks away from their original location on the corner of 19th and Franklin. Along 19th between Franklin and Webster, there are a number of quality lunchtime options including Davinci Cafe, The Rotisserie, Yama Sushi, Mama’s Vietnamese Restaurant, Burger Gourmet, and Bellyroll Ben's. Nearby, Juanita's and Axtlan serve fantastic Mexican food, while the Bay Fung Tong Seafood Tea House offers authentic Chinese cuisine. Other notable restuarants in SOBO include PHO 84, Take It Easy Thai, Ichi Japan, Henry's Cafe, and the Pure Natural Cafe. Just outside of the district on the corner of 17th and Webster Spice Monkey offers home-style slow food, and is not to be missed.
